We recognize the need

Reducing and/or eliminating bullying and cruel behaviors is a critical challenge for schools across the country.

According to the CDC, emotional and behavioral problems experienced by bullies and their victims may continue into adulthood and produce long-term negative outcomes, including low self-esteem, depression, drug use and abuse, criminal behavior, gang membership, and suicidal ideation.

A Resource for High Schools to Help End Bullying and Cruelty

National GuardH·E·A·R is a new anti-bullying presentation designed specifically for high school students. It is sponsored by the Army National Guard and there are no costs to schools.

This 50-minute classroom presentation was developed in collaboration with nationally renowned subject matter experts at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Purpose

We have designed the H·E·A·R anti bullying presentation so that high school students have an opportunity to reflect on real bullying and cruelty situations and to brainstorm appropriate ways to respond. Bullying is all too common in many school settings; most students already know what bullying is and looks like, but few know how to respond when bullying and cruelty occur frequently in their school or community. By providing structured discussion and personal reflection opportunities as part of this presentation, we believe that students will be more informed about the causes of bullying and better engaged in brainstorming solutions.
